Undergraduates named Dean's Research Fellows
Sixteen undergraduates have been awarded Yale College Dean's Research Fellowships this year.
The fellowships support original student research projects that cannot be supported through other programs or grants. Students generally work 8-10 weeks under the supervision of a Yale faculty member.
This year's winners are:
Michael Berkley '04 of Pierson College will study intracellular calcium signaling mechanisms.
Geoffrey Chaiken '04 of Pierson College will study fluorescent proteins of Great Barrier Reef invertebrates.
James DuRuz '03 of Timothy Dwight College will investigate approaches to digital music composition.
Gabriel Greenberg '04 of Morse College will explore philosophical challenges arising in association with scientific explanations of consciousness.
Lejla Hadzic '03 of Jonathan Edwards College will explore primary source literature reflecting the Bosnian Muslim identity in the interwar period.
Jason Hong '04 of Morse College will study the mechanisms underlying small molecule recognition of specific proteins.
Andrew Horowitz '03 of Jonathan Edwards College will initiate a New Haven oral history project.
Irina Manta '03 of Branford College will use functional magnetic resonance imaging to analyze cognitive gender differences.
Kimberly Montez '03 of Branford College will study the molecular genetics of human cardiac malformations.
Hai Ngu '03 of Branford College will study the properties of columns used in capillary electrochromatography.
Amar Patel '05 of Silliman College will study nervous system development in Drosophila.
Avram Robinson-Mosher '04 of Davenport College will develop algorithms applicable to quantum chromodynamics.
Claire Shorenstein '03 of Pierson College will explore the portrayal of 19th-century women in the work of Edgar Degas.
Jessica Weber '03 of Branford College will study the history of the Simplified Spelling Movement.
Emily Wills '04 of Trumbull College will study race and politics among the Muhajjabat (veiled Muslim women) of New York City.
Zhang Yang '03 of Branford College will study genetic regulatory mechanisms underlying mammalian brain development.
