YSN-affiliated practice offers care for women
The Faculty Practice Group of the Yale School of Nursing (YSN) is now offering health care services for women of all ages at the Meditation Center of Griffin Hospital in Derby, Connecticut.
The new Women's Health and Midwifery practice, which opened June 14, is staffed by certified nurse-midwives (CNM) and a family nurse practitioner (FNP). These nursing professionals are nationally certified, licensed to practice and prescribe medications by the state of Connecticut and credentialed by Griffin Hospital. They have formal relationships with physicians practicing in the community, with whom they consult and to whom they refer patients as the need arrives.
"Both CNMs and FNPs are considered primary care providers, meaning they perform complete history and physicals, offer a wide range of health education and diagnose and treat most common health conditions," explains Colleen Senterfitt, the center's director. "CNMs also have a high level of expertise in gynecological care, family planning services and preconception counseling. The FNP provides advanced primary health care services and education beyond routine health screening in the management of more complex acute and chronic health problems."
The Women's Health and Midwifery staff will offer full obstetric services, including births at Griffin Hospital's Childbirth Center, as well as gynecologic, counseling, health education and screening services.
