Sophomore Brian Roberts was chosen the most valuable player of the recent Yale-Fila Classic. He provided a strong defense in Yale's two games and assisted in a game-winning goal. Some of his teammates were also singled out for honors. Seniors Brian Larkin and Brian Lavin together with freshman Andrew Dealy were named to the all-tournament team; Dealy was also selected as the Ivy League Rookie of the Week.

Senior Alexis Surovov (Shelton, CT) was Yale's top finisher at the Great American meet. He placed 39th with a time of 25:33.

Senior Tovia Martirosian (Richmond, VA) scored her second goal of the game with 1:51 left in overtime in the victory over Fairfield.

Freshman Sarah Driscoll (Belle Mead, NJ) leads the team in overall scoring with five points (2 goals, 1 assist).


Football (1-0, 1-0 Ivy)

This Week: Sept. 29 at Holy Cross, noon

Senior Billy Brown (East Cleveland, OH) had three touchdown receptions in the victory over Cornell. Overall, he finished with nine catches for 177 yards, and he was selected as the Walter Camp Football Foundation Player of the Game.

This Week: Sept. 29-30 at Lady Lion Invitational (Penn State)

Freshman Anna Jepson (Hasselby, Sweden) was the Bulldogs' medalist at the Yale Invitational. She placed fourth with a two-round score of 151. Senior Sarah Seo (Lima, OH) and freshman Stephanie Wei (Bellevue, WA) tied for seventh with 154s.

Sept. 29 vs. Cornell, 7 p.m., Soccer-Lacrosse Stadium

With the victories over Tulsa and UAB, the Bulldogs captured the Yale-Fila Classic.

Sophomore Brian Roberts (LaVerne, CA) was named the most valuable player of the Yale-Fila Classic. In addition to playing outstanding defense in Yale's two games, Roberts assisted on the game-winning goal in overtime against UAB.

Senior Brian Larkin (Troy, MI) scored the winning goal against UAB. He was named to the all-tournament team along with senior Brian Lavin (Guilford, CT) and freshman Andrew Dealy (Pittsburgh, PA). Dealy, who scored the game-winning goal against Tulsa, was selected as the Ivy League Rookie of the Week.

Sept. 29 vs. Harvard, 4 p.m., Soccer-Lacrosse Stadium

Junior Ali Cobbett (Wallingford, CT) scored twice and added an assist in the victory over Central Connecticut. She leads the team in overall scoring with 15 points (7 goals, 1 assist) and has scored at least two goals in three of Yale's four games.


Men's Tennis

Last Week: Sept. 22-23 -- Princeton & Cornell Invitationals

This Week: Sept. 29 -- Yale Invitational

Seniors Ryan Coyle (Tulsa, OK) and Chris Shackelton (Reno, NV) defeated a team from Pennsylvania 8-6 to win the doubles championship at the Farnsworth/ Princeton Invitational. Shackelton also reached the semifinals of the singles draw.

At the Cornell Invitational, sophomore David Goldman (Miami, FL) was forced to retire in the second set of A flight championship match. In addition, freshman Ryan Murphy (Houston, TX) won the B flight, and freshman Andrew Arons (Dix Hills, NY) won the D flight singles.


Women's Tennis

This Week: Sept. 28-30 at Cissie Leary Invitational

Seniors Andrea Goldberg (Albuquerque, NM) and Susie Hiniker (Ann Arbor, MI) won the doubles title at the Princeton Invitational.

Freshman Jana Freeman (Long Beach, CA) averaged 10.5 kills and 13.5 digs in Yale's four games last week. She posted highs of 12 kills and 16 digs in the Bulldogs' match against Brown.
