Yale University officially marked the end of its 300th birthday celebration with three days of exciting activities.
Students, faculty, staff and New Haven-area neighbors turned out in droves for the events, which included a Convocation on Cross Campus, with berobed well-wishers from academic institutions around the world; a symposium titled "Democratic Vistas, Global Perspectives," with special presentations by many of the faculty who highlighted the Tercentennial DeVane Lectures series; the Yale 300 Festival at the Yale Bowl, with displays showcasing campus departments and groups, including several of the most popular attractions at the Tercentennial Open House in October; and a Tercentennial Show, with appearances by some of the alumni from the "300 Years of Creativity and Discovery" weekend in April, as well as a performance by singer and composer Paul Simon.
The last three U.S. presidents -- all Yale graduates -- visited the campus during the past year. Bill Clinton '73 J.D. spoke during this final weekend; his predecessor in the Oval Office, George H.W. Bush '48, gave a special presentation at the April Tercentennial Weekend; and his son, President George W. Bush '68, received an honorary degree at Yale's 2001 Commencement ceremony.
