The new home of Robert and Dina Kinney, at 33-35 Fitch St., was designed and built by students at the School of Architecture as part of the school's First Year Building Project.
Last spring, teams of students were challenged to come up with the best design for the double corner lot in New Haven's City Point neighborhood, and the 1,500-square-foot house pictured above is the winning team's design. The students spent the summer actually constructing the house, and held its dedication on Oct. 4. The First Year Building Project enables students to hone their craft and address social needs at the same time. For the past six years, students have worked in partnership with the nonprofit agency Neighborhood Housing Services, Inc. to help revive city neighborhoods and make the dream of owning their own home a reality for New Haven families.
