Talks about Sept. 11 aftermath to focus on questions of gender
A series of open conversations between faculty and students will be held during the fall semester on the theme "Responding to 9/11 and Its Aftermath: Questions of Gender."
The series is sponsored by the Women's and Gender Studies Program, the Yale Women's Center and the Larry Kramer Initiative for Lesbian and Gay Studies.
The following is a schedule of talks. All events take place 11:30 a.m.-1:30 p.m. in the Farr Room of the Trumbull College dining hall, 241 Elm St.
Monday, Oct. 29 -- "Constructing Families, Victims and Nations: What has Gender Become?" led by Peter Hegarty, director of the Larry Kramer Initiative for Lesbian and Gay Studies, and Mary Lui, assistant professor of history and American studies.
Friday, Nov. 2 -- "War and Feminism: What Can History Teach Us?" led by Naomi Rogers, assistant professor and research affiliate in the history of medicine and assistant professor of women's and gender studies, and Cynthia Russett, the Larned Professor of History.
Thursday, Nov. 8 -- "Gender and the 'War on Terrorism': What Does the Taliban's Violence Towards Women Have To Do with the U.S. Military Response?" led by Kamari Clarke, assistant professor of anthropology, and Vron Ware, lecturer in sociology and women's and gender studies.
Thursday, Nov. 15 -- "Feminism and Activism: What Can We Do?" led by Laura Wexler, associate professor of women's and gender studies and American studies; Alicia Camacho, assistant professor of American studies and African American studies, and Lui.
