Conservation of biodiversity
in China is subject of talks

Lu Zhi, a member of the visiting ,faculty at the School of Forestry & Environmental Studies and an associate professor at Beijing University, will discuss "Challenges of Conserving China's Biodiversity" on Thursday, Nov. 1, at 5 p.m. in Rm. 24 of Sage Hall, 205 Prospect St.

In her talk, Zhi will discuss the complex nature of biodiversity conservation in China, its implications for the country's social and economic development, as well as recent progress in conservation. The lecture will highlight the giant panda to discuss conservation efforts, as well as their effectiveness, made by government and international organizations.

Zhi has conducted long-term re-search on the ecology, behavior and genetics of the giant panda, and has managed the Species and Protected Areas Program for the World Wildlife Fund in China. Her work focuses on capacity building, community development, and policy research and lobbying in western China, including Tibet.
