Stephen Bright to speak at tea

Stephen Bright, a visiting lecturer at the School of Law, will discuss "Life as a Public Interest Lawyer -- Representing Death Penalty Defendants and Litigating for Prison and Jail Reform" at a master's tea on Tuesday, Oct. 30.

The tea, which is free and open to the public, will take place at 4 p.m. in the Davenport College master's house, 271 Park St.

Bright is the director of the Southern Center for Human Rights. He has represented persons facing the death penalty since 1979 and has argued before the U.S. Supreme Court and testified before committees of both the U.S. Senate and House of Representatives. He received the ABA Thurgood Marshall Award in 1998 and the ACLU Roger Baldwin Medal of Liberty in 1991.
