YUWO lecture series

The Yale University Women's Organization (YUWO) will host a series of lectures by Mary Habeck, associate professor of history, this semester.

Titled "Understanding the Conflict with Iraq," the series will be held on Tuesdays, Feb. 18, Feb. 25 and March 4, 10-11 a.m., in the Sterling Library lecture hall. It is open to members of YUWO and their guests. The charge is $8 per lecture or $20 for the series, payable at the door. For more information, call Letha Sandweiss at (203) 785-6294.


Red Cross blood drive

The Red Cross will hold a blood drive at the McDougal Center, Rm. 119, Hall of Graduate Studies, 320 York St., on Wednesday, Feb. 19, from 10:30 a.m. to 3:15 p.m. Individuals who are interested in donating blood should contact the McDougal Center at (203) 432-BLUE or by sending e-mail to mcdougal.center@yale.edu. Appointments will be made at 15 minute intervals.

The drive is sponsored by the Community Service Fellows at the McDougal Center, the University Library and the Law School.


Faculty art exhibit

Sydney Z. Spiesel, assistant clinical professor of pediatrics, will exhibit his photographs and algorithmic art at Trumbull College Artspace on Friday, Feb. 14, 6-8 p.m.

Titled "SubSublime," the exhibit represents an exploration of "the tension between harmony and disorder, beauty and imperfection." Additional showings will be held Feb. 15-19 by arrangement.


Children's Theater

The Yale Children's Theater and the Morse College Sudler Fund will present "My Father's Dragon," an adaptation of Ruth Stiles Gannett's children's story.

Showtimes will be Friday, Feb. 28 at 7 p.m. and 10 p.m.; Saturday, March 1 at 1 p.m., 3 p.m. and 7 p.m.; and Sunday, March 2 at 1 p.m. and 3 p.m. Tickets are $2 for children and $3 for adults. The Saturday show at 1 p.m. is free.

Peabody events

The Peabody Museum of Natural History will feature two events of interest for children next week.

On Sunday, Feb. 16, from noon to 4 p.m., the museum will team up with the New Haven Dental Association and Dudley the Dinosaur for an educational program designed to teach the entire family about dental hygiene. Titled "Dino-Mite Dental Day," the event will offer hands-on activities and live entertainment. The first 1,000 children will receive a free goodie bag.

"Dinosaur Days" will be held Monday to Saturday, Feb. 17-22, from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. This annual celebration of paleontology and dinosaurs will offer hands-on activities for the entire family, including a fossil dig, an extensive fossil touch table, dinosaur arts and crafts, and the chance to meet experts and watch them prepare dinosaur bones for display. A puppet show will be held each day at 11 a.m. and "something special" each afternoon at 1 p.m.

The museum is located at 175 Whitney Ave. Admission is $5 for adults, and $3 for children aged 3-15 and seniors aged 65 and over. For more information, call (203) 432-5050.


Concert Band poster exhibit

The Yale Concert Band will feature an exhibit of concert posters in conjunction with the concert series "No Strings Attached: Wind Band Transcriptions of Orchestral Masterpieces" on Friday, Feb. 21.

The exhibition, titled "The Art of Music," will be held in the rotunda of Woolsey Hall, College and Grove streets. The framed Concert Band and Yale Jazz Ensemble posters from years past will be on display before and during the concert, and will be for sale during intermission and after the show, which begins at 8 p.m.

Accepted forms of payment will be cash, check, Mastercard and Visa. Proceeds from the exhibit will help defray the cost of the band's tour of Russia, Finland and Estonia in May and June. For more information, call (203) 432-4113.
