Two members of the Yale College Class of 2003 who have been active in the Yale and New Haven communities were awarded the Roosevelt L. Thompson Prize during Senior Class Day ceremonies.
Dr. Richard Schottenfeld, chair of the Council of Masters Committee on Awards as well as master of Davenport College and professor of psychiatry, presented the awards at the May 25 ceremony. The Thompson Prize is given to members of the senior class for commitment to and capacity for public service.

Eric N. Feins
An ethics, politics, and economics major, with a special interest in medical ethics, and a passionate and devoted pre-medical student, he performed valuable research on cellular mechanisms of regulating pH. As a member of Yale's Varsity Lightweight Crew, he helped his team win the 2000 and 2001 Head of the Charles competitions, the 2001 and 2002 Eastern Sprints, as well as the 2002 National Championships. He won a silver medal at the 2001 National Championship, was named to Academic All-Ivy Honors in the spring of 2002, and was a member of the United States National Rowing Team at the World Rowing Championships in 2001 and 2002, where he earned a bronze medal both years. He has distinguished himself with his decency and concern for others and his commitment as a volunteer coach to New Haven youth in the Yale Community Rowing Program. He has been an inspiration both here at Yale and in the communities beyond the campus.

This award reflects not only his incredible service to Yale basketball, breaking innumerable records and putting Yale on the map nationally, but it also reflects his cheering, sharing spirit, inspiring his varsity and college intramural teammates across all four years, and his contributions to basketball programs for young people in New Haven.
