Grant to Child Study Center supports
evaluation of home-based care

The Hartford Foundation for Public Giving has awarded the Yale Child Study Center a $25,000 grant for evaluation of the "Intensive In-Home Child and Adolescent Psychiatry Service" (IICAPS).

IICAPS was developed at Yale in 1995 as a model of home-based psychiatric care for children. It was developed to reduce the need for restrictive placements and hospitalization for children with serious emotional disturbances who are being discharged from psychiatric hospitals to home, or children who appear in emergency rooms in psychiatric distress.

This innovative model of in-home services to children with severe psychiatric disorders was developed by members of the Yale Child Study Center faculty Dr. Joseph Woolston, Jean Adnopoz and Dr. Steven Berkowitz, and is being replicated at 16 sites throughout Connecticut, in provider agencies selected by the state's Department of Children and Families as part of the department's KidCare initiative.

This grant by the Hartford Foundation for Public Giving will support a pilot evaluation study to determine the effectiveness of the IICAPS services at the Wheeler Clinic in Hartford.

The Hartford Foundation for Public Giving is the community foundation for the Capital Region -- the City of Hartford and 29 surrounding towns -- devoted to building successful partnerships with donors and nonprofits to help make life better for people in that community.
