YUWO events

The Yale University Women's Organization (YUWO) will sponsor the final lecture in the series titled "Genius of the 20th Century: Freud, Einstein and Marx" on Wednesday, Nov. 12.

The speaker will be John Geanakoplos, the James Tobin Professor of Economics. His lecture, titled "Marx, Shylock and Irving Fisher: Is Interest Exploitation?" will be held in the Sterling Memorial Library lecture hall at 10:30 a.m.

The fee for the series is $40. The series is open only to members of YUWO and their guests. For more information, call (203) 562-2894 or (203) 288-4164.

On Tuesday, Nov. 11, YUWO will present a "Lunch and Learn" session with John W. Cook, professor emeritus of religion and the arts. He will speak on "New Movements in Church Architecture" in the Great Hall at the Institute of Sacred Music, 409 Prospect St., at noon. Attendees may bring a bag lunch; coffee and dessert will be served.

Ramadan banquet

The Yale Muslim Students Association will host a Ramadan banquet, including dinner, on Thursday, Nov. 13, from 6 p.m. to 8 p.m.

The banquet is open to the entire University community, including faculty and staff.

It will be held in the Old Blue room at the Colony Inn, 1157 Chapel St. Tickets are $12 and can be purchased in front of Commons during lunchtime during the week of Nov. 10 or by contacting gul.raza@yale.edu.


Safety training sessions

The Office of Environmental Health and Safety will offer a series of training sessions in November for University employees who work with dangerous substances.

Sessions will include "Chemical Safety Laboratory Personnel Training," a required course for laboratory personnel who work with chemicals, and "Safe Use of Biological Safety Cabinets" for employees who work with biological safety cabinets.

Computer chess game

The Yale MBA Chess Society will host a broadcast of the opening game of Garry Kasparov versus the computer program X3D Fritz on Tuesday, Nov. 11.

The game will be displayed on a widescreen monitor in the General Motors Room at the Yale School of Management, 55 Hillhouse Ave., from approximately 1 p.m. until 7:30 p.m. Akira Watanabe, a three-time national chess champion of Japan and a Yale student, will be on hand to answer questions and offer insights while the game is being played.
