United Way Campaign nears halfway mark in meeting its goal
Still in full swing, the Yale United Way Campaign has raised over $237,000 in donations and pledges from Yale faculty and staff.
This year's goal is $500,000.
During the week of Sept. 11, in conjunction with National Civil Participation Week, Yale affiliates also participated in a United Way Day of Caring Book Drive. They donated more than 2,500 new and lightly used books to the drive. Several hundred of the books were distributed at the Mayor's Halloween Parade, while others were picked up or donated to teachers from Hillhouse High School, Fair Haven Middle School, Hill Central, the Roberto Clemente School and the Early Learning Center.
"Every person who has seen the Yale-donated books has raved about the quality and quantity of the selection," says Christine Alexander, director of New Haven Reads. Donated books were distributed through the New Haven Reads office on Park Street.
There is still time for Yale faculty and staff to make their contributions to the Yale United Campaign. Donors can pledge online at http://mire.med.yale.edu/lcdb/unitedway/default.htm.
