The Yale Russian Chorus will present a concert with the New Haven Oratorio Choir at 8 p.m. on Saturday, Nov. 15, at the Church of the Redeemer, 185 Cold Spring St., New Haven. John Roemer, the Elizabeth S. & A. Varick Stout Professor of Political Science and Economics, has received a Fulbright Senior Specialists grant in political science at CLAEH Centro Latinamericano de Economia Humana (Latin American Center of Human Economy). The Senior Specialists Program offers two- to six-week grants to leading U.S. academics and professionals to support curricular and faculty development and institutional planning at academic institutions in 140 countries around the world. Created to complement the traditional Fulbright Scholar Program which was started in 1946, the Senior Specialists Program aims at increasing the number of faculty and professionals who have the opportunity to go abroad on a Fulbright. The program's purpose is to increase mutual understanding between the people of the United States and those of other countries.
Robert Wheeler, the Harold Hodgkinson Professor Emeritus of Engineering and Applied Physics and professor of physics, will discuss Simon Winchester's book "Krakatoa: The Day the World Exploded" at a "Books Sandwiched In" discussion on Thursday, Nov. 20. Sponsored by the New Haven Free Public Library, the talk will take place noon-1 p.m. in the community program room at the library; the lower level entrance is on Temple St.
