The Fine Art of Shopping

Everything from art to zany toys can be found by holiday shoppers this season in the stores and boutiques that abound in the neighborhoods surrounding Yale and in several campus shops.

Among the two newest stores near the campus are Sogno, Boutique of Dreams LLC and the Toystore on Audubon. Yale University Properties helped entice these two stores to a Yale-owned building on Audubon Street as part of the University's focus on the development of the Audubon arts district.

Campus shops that have been a popular destination for holiday shoppers are the Museum Store at the Peabody Museum, the Yale Center for British Art Museum Shop and the Yale University Art Gallery's two museum stores, one of which just opened in November.

Below are the locations and hours of campus museum shops. The shops are open through Dec. 23.

These handcrafted pottery works are available at the Peabody Museum of Natural History.

Peabody Museum of Natural History Museum Store
170 Whitney Ave.: Open Monday-Saturday 10 a.m.-4:45 p.m., and Sunday noon-4:45 p.m. on Sunday. Yale community members can print a downloadable coupon good for a 10% discount on purchases at the store at www.peabody.yale.edu/store. The coupon is good through Dec. 23.

Yale University Art Gallery Museum Stores
The original museum store -- which carries art-related jewelry, games and toys, postcards, calendars, stationary and books -- is currently located in the entrance to the Swartwout building, corner of Chapel and High streets. It is open Tuesday-Saturday 10 a.m.-5 p.m., Thursday until 8 p.m. and Sunday 1-5 p.m.

The museum's newly opened second store, which features contemporary art and design, particularly original works by local and international artists, is located at 46 High St. Its hours are Monday-Saturday 10 a.m.-6 p.m., Thursday until 8 p.m. and Sunday noon-5 p.m.
