Holiday shopping benefit
Ten Thousand Villages, a nonprofit gift shop that specializes in handicrafts from around the world, will hold a benefit for Asha-Yale on Sunday, Dec. 14th, from noon to 6 p.m.
Asha-Yale is the New Haven chapter of Asha for Education, an all-volunteer organization dedicated to the basic education of underprivileged children in India.
Ten Thousand Villages, located at 1054 Chapel St., will donate 10% of all purchases made during the benefit to Asha-Yale. For more information, send e-mail to Elizebeth Varghese at elizebethv@yahoo.com.
The Manuscripts and Archives department of the University Library will present its second annual open screening of films from its vaults on the first three Wednesdays in January.
This year's films will highlight the Yale experience and changes in New Haven, as well as productions by students. The screenings, which are free and open to the public, will begin at noon in the Sterling Memorial Library lecture hall, 128 Wall St.
The films are: "Yale: An American Story" (Jan. 7); "May Day" and "Subtext of a Yale Education" (Jan. 14); and "Rediscovering New Haven Harbor" and "On Broadway: A New Haven Streetscape" (Jan. 21).
The 24th annual Yale Community Children's Art Calendar is now available.
The calendar features artwork by the children of Calvin Hill Day Care Center and the Kitty Lustman-Findling Kindergarten. It is underwritten by donations from area merchants, parents, alumni and others. Proceeds from the calendar support the sliding tuition scale at the center, which provides affordable, high quality care to more than 60 children of Yale and community families.
The calendar is available for $10 at the Yale Bookstore or directly through the Calvin Hill Center at 150 Highland St. For more information or to request an application for enrollment for 2004-2005, call Carla Horwitz at (203) 764-9350.
