Basketball employee days

The Athletics Department will host two basketball "Employee Days" at the Payne Whitney Gym this month.

On Friday, Jan. 16, at 7 p.m, the men's basketball team will take on Brown. Employees must present a valid Yale I.D. at the box office starting one hour prior to game time. Each employee will receive two free general admission/standing room only tickets.

On Saturday, Jan. 17, at 7 p.m., the women's team will take on their counterparts at Brown. Employees must present a valid Yale I.D. at the box office starting one hour prior to game time. Employees and their immediate families will receive free general admission tickets.

YUWO lecture

The Yale University Women's Organizatiaon will sponsor a "Lunch and Learn" event on Tuesday, Jan. 20, featuring Michael Morand, associate vice president for New Haven and State Affairs.

Morand will speak on "New Haven and Yale University: Building Our Future Together" at the Saybrook master's house, 90 High St. The talk, which will begin at 12:30 p.m., will be preceded by a brown bag lunch at noon; coffee and dessert will be provided.

Eyeglass Drive

Unite For Sight, a nonproÞt organization, is designing and implementing new eye health education programs in African and Asian countries.

The organization's new International Sunglasses Project will distribute sunglasses to individuals in India and Ghana, while also implementing health education programs that focus on the importance of wearing the donated sunglasses to prevent cataracts and macular degeneration. Prescription eyeglasses will be distributed to eye clinics and hospitals in India, Ghana and Tanzania.

Unite For Sight is seeking used non-prescription sunglasses, used prescription eyeglasses and used prescription sunglasses. Collection bins are located in Sterling Memorial Library and the Cushing/Whitney Medical Library. Griswold research fund

Applications are now being accepted for A. Whitney Griswold Faculty Research Fund awards.

The fund was established to help faculty members carry out research in the humanities. The award is for the projected research of full-time faculty members on continuing appointment in any department or division of the University. Funding of up to $2,500 per academic year may be sought for purposes such as travel to inspect primary-source materials; acquisition of inaccessible books or microÞlms, which would later be transferred to a University library; or assistance with research. The award is not intended for reimbursement of expenses already incurred.

Faculty members requesting amounts over $1,000 should also apply to other sources of support. The deadline to submit applications, along with supporting materials, is Feb. 1. Applications may be obtained at www.yale.edu/whc.

Safety training sessions

The Office of Environmental Health and Safety will offer a series of training sessions in January for University employees who work with dangerous substances.

Sessions will include "Bloodborne Pathogens Annual Retraining," a course for employees who continually work with human materials or bloodborne pathogens, and "Safe Use of Biological Safety Cabinets," for employees who work with biological safety cabinets.

Child Conduct Clinic

The Child Conduct Clinic is currently accepting children between the ages of 2 and 13-1/2 who are displaying behavioral problems such as lying, disobeying parents, swearing, cheating, fighting, not getting along with others or getting into trouble at school.
