Symposium will celebrate architect Kahn's legacy
Former clients and collaborators of the internationally acclaimed architect Louis I. Kahn -- along with scholars and practitioners in the architecture field -- will participate in a two-day symposium celebrating the legacy of the late architect.
"Engaging Louis I. Kahn: A Legacy for the Future" will take place Friday and Saturday, Jan. 23 and 24, in the auditorium of the Yale Center for British Art, 1080 Chapel St.
The event celebrates the 50th anniversary of the Yale University Art Gallery -- Kahn's first major work -- and the 25th annivesary of the Yale Center for British Art -- his last major work. In addition, the symposium will present the most recent scholarship on the architect while exploring issues surrounding the conservation of his work and its meaning for the future.
The keynote address, the Brendan Gill Lecture, will be delivered at 5:30 p.m. on Friday by Robert Bruegmann, a historian of architecture, landscape and the built environment, who teaches at the University of Illinois at Chicago.
The symposium is co-sponsored by the Yale University Art Gallery, the Yale Center for British Art and the School of Architecture. Seating is limited to 200 and pre-registration is required. Admission is free for Yale faculty, staff and students (who must pre-register); there is a $25 fee for others. For more information or to obtain registration materials, send e-mail to Diane Bowman at diane.bowman@yale.edu or call (203) 432-8929.
