Stephen Morris, the newly appointed Ford Foundation Professor of Economics, is a specialist in microeconomics and game theory.
He has authored or co-authored numerous articles and papers for leading academic and economics journals on such topics as the economic basis of political correctness, information economics, speculative investor behavior, inflation dynamics, fiscal stabilization and exchange rate instability, private value auctions, risk management and currency crises, among other subjects.
A native of England, Morris earned his B.A. from Cambridge University and was an economist for Uganda's Ministry of Planning and Economic Development before earning his Ph.D. in economics from Yale in 1991. He taught at the University of Pennsylvania from 1991 until joining the Yale faculty as a professor in 1998. At Yale, he is also affiliated with the Cowles Foundation for Research in Economics.
The Yale economist has been a visiting lecturer, scholar or professor at Brown University, the International Monetary Fund, the London School of Economics, Northwestern University, the Federal Reserve Bank of Philadelphia, the University of Melbourne in Australia, the Université Catholique de Louvain in Belgium and Makerere University in Uganda.
Morris has been the recipient of four National Science Foundation grants for economic research. He was an Alfred P. Sloan Research Fellow 1996-1998 and won the Carl Arvid Andersen Prize Fellowship from the Cowles Foundation in 1990. Earlier in his career, he won the Overseas Development Institute Fellowship and the Clare-Mellon Fellowship from Yale.
The Yale economist's other honors include election as a fellow of the Econometric Society in 2002.
Morris is currently the associate editor of Games and Economic Behavior and of Econometrica. He is the foreign editor of Review of Economic Studies and was the founding editor of BEPress Journals of Theoretical Economics, where he serves on the editorial board. He is also a member of the editorial boards of the International Journal of Game Theory and American Economic Review, and has been a referee for many academic and economic journals, publishing houses and research foundations.
