President re-establishes Minority Advisory Council
President Richard C. Levin has announced the re-establishment of the Minority Advisory Council (MAC) to discuss issues relating to the welfare of minority groups at Yale.
"The University is aware of the importance of its responsibility to protect the rights and equal opportunity of all its members," said Levin in his announcement. "MAC will address issues that are campus-wide in character and will advise the President on the appropriateness of policies related to minority groups."
Drew S. Days III, the Alfred M. Rankin Professor of Law, will chair the committee. The other MAC members are Liza Cariaga-Lo, assistant dean of diversity at the Graduate School and assistant clinical professor at the Child Study Center; Rosalinda Garcia, assistant dean of Yale College and director of the Latino and Native American cultural centers; Nina M. Glickson, assistant to the president (ex-officio); Valerie Hayes, director of the Office of Equal Opportunity Programs and special adviser to the provost; T.P. Ma, the Raymond John Wean Professor and chair of electrical engineering and professor of applied physics; Curtis Patton, professor and head of the Division of the Epidemiology of Microbial Diseases and director of international medical studies; Laurie Santos, assistant professor of psychology; the Reverend Frederick J. Streets, University chaplain; and Betty Trachtenberg, associate dean of Yale College and dean of student affairs.
The undergraduate representatives on the committee are Joshua Bendor '05 of Ezra Stiles College, Tiffany Lu '06 of Trumbull College and Hector Silva '05 of Saybrook College; the graduate/professional student representatives are Molly Martinez (sociology) and Derek Snyder (neuroscience).
