Peabody event

The Peabody Museum of Natural History will present a lecture, incorporating audio and video, about Cornell University's Elephant Listening Project.

On Thursday, March 4, at 4 p.m., Katy Payne, leader of the Cornell project, will speak on "Eavesdropping on Forest Elephants." The project created an acoustic monitoring system that uses elephant vocal patterns as indicators of the size, composition and reproductive health of populations of elephants in the Dzanga forest clearing in the Central African Republic. The lec-ture will present the project's innovative methodology, some of its early results and a few stories about elephant behavior. There is no admission or fee to attend this event.

"Othello" at the Yale Dramat

The Yale Dramatic Association is presenting Shakespeare's "Othello" at The New Theater, 1156 Chapel St., on Feb. 27 and 28.

Safety training sessions

The Office of Environmental Health and Safety will offer a series of training sessions in March for University employees.

Sessions will include "Non-Laboratory Personnel Training," a required course for non-laboratory personnel in areas such as the physical plant, the print shop and grounds maintenance, and "Radiation Safety Orientation," a mandatory course for personnel who work with radioactive material or frequent an area where radioactive materials are stored or used.

International visitors resources

Informational sessions about the resources available on campus for hosting international scholars will be held in March.

The sessions will be organized by the Office of International Affairs, Office of International Students and Scholars, the Center for International and Area Studies and the Tax Office. Representatives from these offices will discuss the assistance available to departments to ensure that international visitors have a productive stay at the University. Topics will include navigating the bureaucracies of getting an international visitor into the country, paying an honorarium and/or reimbursing expenses, finding suitable accommodations, and more.

Sessions will be held at 3 p.m. on Tuesday, March 9, in Rm. 202 of Luce Hall, 34 Hillhouse Ave., and at 3 p.m. on Wednesday, March 10, at the Anlyan Center for Medical Research & Education (TAC), Rm. N203, 300 Cedar St. For more information, call (203) 432-2305.


Film series at BAC

The Yale Center for British Art, 1080 Chapel St., will present a film series titled "Glorious Technicolor, Breathtaking Cinemascope and Stereophonic Sound" this spring.

The series will be held in conjunction with the exhibition, "Richard Hamilton: Prints and Multiples, 1939-2002." The films chosen have either directly influenced works in the exhibition or relate to them thematically. The artist has acknowledged that film has been a critically formative visual influence.

The series will begin with "Forbidden Planet," on Saturday, March 6, at 2 p.m. Other films in the series will include "How to Marry a Millionaire," "American Graffiti" and "A Hard Day's Night."
