Harshav receives Koret Jewish Book Award

Benjamin Harshav, professor of comparative literature and Slavic languages and literature, and the Jacob and Hilda Blaustein Professor of Hebrew Language & Literature, won the 2003-2004 Koret Jewish Book Award for "Chagall His Life and Times: A Documentary Narrative."

The award of $10,000 will be presented on March 29 in New York City. The prize is presented in cooperation with the National Foundation for Jewish Culture.

Harshav's book won in the category of Biography, Autobiography and Literary Studies. In its review of the book, the Jewish Tribune described Harshav as "the preeminent Jewish culture critic today." It continued, "But he has outdone himself with this absolutely unique volume on painter Marc Chagall which runs more than a thousand pages. Although referred to as a biography, Harshav's work is far more ambitious ..."
