YUWO lecture

The Yale University Women's Organization will present the second of four lectures in its spring lecture series, titled "Doomed Love, 1400-2000," on Tuesday, April 6.

The lecture, titled "Shakespeare's 'Antony and Cleopatra,'" will be delivered by Annabel Patterson, Sterling Professor of English and the DeVane Professor of English. It will take place at 10:30 a.m. in the Sterling Memorial Library lecture hall.

The fee for the series is $32. The course is open to YUWO members and their guests. For more information, call (203) 562-2894.


Manuscripts and Archives

The Department of Manuscripts and Archives will award two prizes at commencement.

One prize will be awarded to a senior in any department for an outstanding essay based on research done in Manuscripts and Archives. A second prize will be awarded to a senior in any department for an outstanding use of primary sources for an essay on Yale. The prizes each carry a cash award of $500.

Nominations will be accepted from faculty advisors. Students may also nominate themselves. For more information, contact Diane Kaplan at (203) 432-1069 or at diane.kaplan@yale.edu, no later than April 12.


M&P golf tournament

The Department of Human Resources is sponsoring the 15th annual Howard Parish Memorial Golf Tournament for managerial and professional (M&P) employees.

The event is scheduled for Monday, June 14, beginning with a sign-in procedure at noon. Teams, each consisting of four players, will commence play at 1 p.m. A reception and awards ceremony will take place 5:30-7 p.m.

All M&P employees are eligible to participate. The fee is $15 for members of the Golf Course and $55 for non-members. Payment is required by June 4 or by payroll deduction. No cash will be accepted. No refunds will be made for cancellations after June 4.

Yale-China essay prize

The Yale-China Association is accepting submissions from seniors for the 2004 Yale-China Essay Prize.

The prize is given for the most outstanding piece of original scholarship by a senior addressing any aspect of the study of China and carries a monetary award. The competition was established in the spirit of promoting mutual understanding between the people of China and the U.S.

Essays, which should not exceed 60 pages in length, will be judged for quality of research, analysis and presentation. Preference is given to research using Chinese-language source materials, such as primary texts or field research.

Submissions should be made in unbound duplicate no later than 4 p.m. on Thursday, April 15, to the Yale-China Association at 442 Temple Street, 2nd floor. Applications should include a cover sheet with name, college, major, address, e-mail and phone number.

Rusinek memorial run

The Julia Rusinek Memorial Run will be held on Sunday, April 18.

The event is held to honor the memory of Julia Rusinek, who was a Yale senior at the time of her death in July 1999. Proceeds will benefit Leadership, Education and Athletics in Partnership (LEAP), which provides after-school enrichment programs for New Haven children.

A half-mile run for children ages 12 and under will begin at 9:30 a.m. The four-mile race will begin at 10 a.m. The event will begin and end at Cross Campus. Registrations costs $15 in advance and $18 on the day of the run. The price includes a tee-shirt, a raffle ticket and post-race refreshments. Participants are welcome to walk or jog as well as run.

5K Walk/Run for Education

The Yale chapter of Asha for Education will host its first annual 5K Walk/Run for Education on Sunday, April 25.

The event will take place at East Rock Park, corner of Orange and Cold Spring streets, beginning at 10: 30 a.m.

All proceeds will benefit education for underprivileged children in India.

Asha for Education is an all-volunteer, secular organization dedicated to improving basic education in India. Since its inception in 1991, the organization has expanded to include 66 chapters across the world that support projects in 22 states in India.

The Child Conduct Clinic is currently accepting children between the ages of 2 and 13-1/2 who are displaying behavioral problems such as lying, disobeying parents, swearing, cheating, Þghting, not getting along with others or getting into trouble at school.
