"Dog Days" at Peabody

The Peabody Museum of Natural History will host "The Dog (and Cat!) Days of Summer" on Saturday and Sunday, Aug. 28 and 29.

Events will include demonstrations by experts of dogs that help humans, dog obedience, the domestication of cats, and how to be responsible and caring pet owners. Museum staff will display skulls, skeletons and pelts from the museum's wild cat and dog collections. Visitors may enter their own dogs in various fun competitions.

Schedules, contest rules and categories are available at www.peabody.yale.edu/events/dogdays.

Community Hosting program

The Office of International Students and Scholars is seeking individuals to host students from abroad who will be freshmen in Yale College this year.

The office believes the opportunity to experience U.S. culture and society and the friendship of a new community is greatly facilitated for many international students if they have the occasion to become acquainted with a local host.

The host program is being launched with the freshmen class students who will arrive at the end of August from 42 different countries. The time commitment will vary depending on the relationship developed between the student and host. At a minimum the host is expected to welcome the new student as he or she arrives on campus, and invite them to share an occasional meal, a family event or holiday activity during the student's first year. Students do not live with their hosts.

Matches will be made in late July or early August. For more information, send e-mail to warrena.wilkinson@yale.edu or ann.kuhlman@yale.edu.

Choral auditions

Four University choral groups will hold auditions from Aug. 31 through Sept. 7 at the Institute of Sacred Music or Battell Chapel.

The Yale Camerata is open to all singers at the University and from the greater New Haven area. Audition requirements include good sight-reading ability and a solo performance.

The Yale Repertory Chorus and Yale Recital Chorus are open to all University students. Both ensembles may be taken for credit or for pay. Audition requirements include good sight-reading ability and a solo performance.

The Yale Schola Cantorum is open to all University students. All members will be given a stipend of $25 per hour. Audition requirements include good sight-reading ability and a solo performance.

For more information about any of the ensembles, call (203) 432-5184.
