Art Place exhibit
The Yale Medical Group Art Place at the Yale Physicians Building, 800 Howard Ave., will premiere its eighth exhibit on Thursday, Nov. 6.
Artists from the University, medical center, hospital communities and outside community will present works in various media, including paintings, photographs, quilts, jewelry and sculptures and woodturning. Art Place has expanded its spectrum of the arts to include written and spoken works. This opening will feature the presentation and reading of "Caduceus," a collection of poetry from accomplished national and local poets.
Exhibit hours are 9 a.m.-5 p.m., Monday-Friday. Admission is free. The exhibit will run through April 2004. A reception will be held 5-7:30 p.m. on Thursday, Nov. 6.

The Advisory Committee on Environmental Management is accepting proposals from all members of the University community for projects to improve environmental management on campus.
Typical grant awards may be from $2,500 to $50,000. The deadline is Nov. 20. Proposal requirements may be viewed online at www.yale.edu/recycling/greenfund.html.
The Office of International Students & Scholars (OISS) is seeking Thanksgiving hosts for international students and scholars and their families.
According to the OISS, there are more than 4,000 international students and scholars who currently call Yale and New Haven their home. OISS is encouraging members of the University community to "take advantage of this unique opportunity to get to know some members of Yale's international population."

The Larry Kramer Initiative for Lesbian and Gay Studies is accepting applications for its FLAGS awards.
The award grants are available to Yale undergraduate, graduate, professional students or faculty. They are intended to aid recipients in the preparation of senior essays, dissertations, books and papers in any area of gay and lesbian studies. Purposes for which funding may be sought include, but are not limited to, travel to inspect primary-source materials or to conduct interviews; acquisition of inaccessible books or other media; and assistance in research and manuscript preparation.
Individuals awards will range from $500 to a maximum of $5,000. The deadline is Nov. 14. For detailed instructions about application procedures, send e-mail to lgs@yale.edu.
The Calvin Hill Day Care Center and Kitty Lustman-Findling Kindergarten will hold an open house for parents and children on Saturday, Nov. 8, 11:30 a.m-1:30 p.m.
The center and kindergarten are nationally accredited, full-day programs for community and University families. Tuition is on a sliding scale, according to income. Experienced teachers work with three separate groups of children between the ages of three and six years old. Located at 150 Highland St., between Whitney Ave. and Prospect St., the center is open 8 a.m.-5:15 p.m. and also offers a summer program.

Applications are now being accepted for James Hudson Brown-Alexander Brown Coxe postdoctoral fellowships in the medical sciences.
The fellowships support new postdoctoral fellows conducting research at the School of Medicine. Candidates must have received the M.D., Ph.D. or other doctoral degree by July 1, 2004. Investigators cannot have completed more than three years of postdoctoral research as of July 1, 2004. There are no citizenship restrictions. The deadline is Nov. 13.
