Yale hailed as good workplace for commuters, by EPA
The U.S. Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) has named Yale University as one of the Best Workplaces for Commuters in New England for 2003.
The EPA cited Yale's Homebuyer Program and its shuttle bus system as two important factors in its commuter-friendly designation.
The Homebuyer Program offers Yale employees a $25,000 incentive if they buy a home in selected New Haven neighborhoods. The hundreds of Yale employees who have bought a home through the program are able to walk, bike or ride a bus to work.
In applying for the EPA designation, the University also noted that 1,000 people ride its shuttle bus system each day. In addition, Yale runs buses to campus from New Haven's train station, and cooperates with Rideworks to promote ridesharing and carpooling.
Yale commuters can also pay for mass transit and off-site parking through pre-tax payroll reduction. Commuting information can be found at www.yale.edu/hronline/parkingandtransit.
