Visitor Center hosts day of family activities

To celebrate its recently completed renovations and to introduce the public to the many exciting activities that take place on campus, the Yale Visitor Center is hosting a Family Open House on Saturday, Nov. 8.

The event is co-sponsored by Yale's Office of New Haven and State Affairs.

The day will include a variety of activities -- from tours to performances to children's activities to Yale football -- all of which are open to the public free of charge. Events will take place between 10 a.m. and 2 p.m.

Among the highlights will be:

* demonstrations by the Yale Anti-Gravity Society, followed by a juggling clinic for youngsters;

* free general admission tickets to the Yale vs. Brown football game at the Yale Bowl;

* performances by Yale singing and dance groups;

* a concert on the Yale Carillon;

* tours of the campus and museum highlights tours, plus special tours of the Robotics Laboratory, the Wright Nuclear Structure Laboratory and the University's Trophy Room in Payne Whitney Gymnasium, which are rarely opened to the public;

* a Kids Architectural Treasure Hunt;

* games and raffles; and

* popcorn, cotton candy and ice cream.

Members of the Yale community are encouraged to bring their friends and neighbors to the day's events.

Participants should stop at the Yale Visitor Center, 149 Elm St., to pick up their free tickets for the events. The center opens at 10 a.m. For further information about the open house, call (203) 432-2300.
