The School of Management Private Equity Conference will host David M. Rubenstein, founding partner of the Carlyle Group, and Nigel Doughty, co-founder and chief executive officer of Doughty Hanson and Co. on Friday, Dec. 3.
The event will take place from 8 a.m. to 6 p.m. at the Hyatt Regency Hotel in Greenwich. The fee for the conference is $185. To register, visit the website at www.yalepec.com.
Dr. Frank J. Bia, professor of internal medicine and laboratory medicine, has been chosen to receive the 2004 Ben Kean Medal.
The medal is awarded by the American Society of Tropical Medicine and Hygiene. It recognizes a clinician or educator whose "dedication to clinical tropical medicine and impact on the training of students, fellows and/or practitioners of tropical medicine is in keeping with the tradition established by Dr. Kean."
Laura Engelstein, the Henry S. McNeil Professor of History and professor of Slavic languages and literatures, will discuss Simon Sebag Montefiore's book "Stalin: The Court of the Red Tsar" at a "Books Sandwiched In" discussion on Thursday, Nov. 18. Sponsored by the New Haven Free Public Library, the talk will take place noon-1 p.m. in the community program room at the library, located at 133 Elm St. Audience members may bring a lunch.
Michael Sletcher, assistant editor of the Papers of Benjamin Franklin, will discuss and sign copies of his book "New Haven: From Puritanism to the Age of Terrorism," at Barnes and Noble, 470 Universal Drive North in North Haven. The event will take place at 7 p.m. on Thursday, Nov. 18.
