Children's art calendar

The 25th annual Yale Community Children's Art Calendar is now available.

The calendar features artwork by the children of Calvin Hill Day Care Center and the Kitty Lustman-Findling Kindergarten. It is underwritten by donations from area merchants, parents, alumni and others. Proceeds from the calendar support the sliding tuition scale at the center, which provides affordable, high quality care to more than 60 children of Yale and community families.

The calendar is available for $10 at the Yale Bookstore or directly through the Calvin Hill Center at 150 Highland St. For more information or to request an application for enrollment for 2005-2006, call Carla Horwitz at (203) 764-9350.

Figure skating club

The Yale Figure Skating Club will begin its 2005 season on Saturday, Jan. 8.

The club offers programs for skaters of all ages, levels and interests. Weekend sessions at Ingalls Rink, 73 Sachem St., include beginner hockey classes, basic skills, dance, moves-in-the-field and freestyle.

For more information and to obtain a copy of a brochure, schedule and registration form, call (203) 432-1233 or visit the website at www.yale.edu/yfsc.

YUWO "Lunch and Learn"

The Yale University Women's Organization will sponsor a "Lunch and Learn" lecture with Dolores Hayden, professor of architecture, urbanism and American studies, next month.

Hayden will discuss her recent book, "A Field Guide to Urban Sprawl," at 11:30 a.m. on Tuesday, Jan. 11, in the Trumbull College master's house, 100 High St.

Attendees may bring a brown bag lunch; coffee and dessert will be served. The event is free and open to the public. For more information, call (203) 624-6684.

Griswold research fund

Applications are now being accepted for A. Whitney Griswold Faculty Research Fund awards.

The fund was established to help faculty members carry out research in the humanities. The award is for the projected research of full-time faculty members on continuing appointment in any department or division of the University.

Funding of up to $2,500 per academic year may be sought for purposes such as travel to inspect primary-source materials; acquisition of inaccessible books or microÞlms, which would later be transferred to a University library; or assistance with research. The award is not intended for reimbursement of expenses already incurred.

Faculty members requesting amounts over $1,000 should also apply to other sources of support. The deadline to submit applications, along with supporting materials, is Tuesday, Feb. 1. Applications may be obtained at www.yale.edu/whc/funding/awgapp.htm.

All materials should be sent to the Chair, Griswold Fund Committee, Whitney Humanities Center, 53 Wall St., P.O. Box 208298, New Haven, CT 06520-8298.
