Bus trip to New York museums

Members of the Yale Art Museums, the joint membership organization of the Art Gallery and the Center for British Art, will host a bus trip to New York this month.

The trip will include visits to Cooper-Hewitt, the National Design Museum and the Metropolitan Museum of Art. It will take place 8 a.m.-5:30 p.m. on Thursday, Jan. 27. The fee is $70 for members; $90 for nonmembers.

Yale Cabaret spring season

The Yale Cabaret, 217 Park St., has announced its spring season of 11 shows.

The season will open on Thursday, Jan. 27, with "Chiang Kai Chek" by Charles L. Mee. Other shows will include "Tuesdays and Sundays," "The Dragon" and "The Death of Milton Hubbell."

All shows will run for five performances: Thursday at 8:30 p.m.; and Friday and Saturday at 8:30 p.m. and 11 p.m. Regular single tickets are $12 general admission; $10 for students. Spring season membership prices range from $30 to $45. Members receive free admission to all 11 spring productions and discounted tickets for their guests.

Dwight Hall bazaar

Dwight Hall, the Center for Public Service and Social Justice at Yale, will hold a "Spring Bazaar for Public Service and Advocacy" on Wednesday, Jan. 19.

The event will take place 7-9 p.m. at 67 High St. on the Old Campus. Attendees will have the opportunity to speak with representatives from over 60 student-run volunteer and advocacy programs and 40 community-based agencies. Orientation Sessions

The Office of International Affairs and the Office of International Students and Scholars will co-sponsor a special orientation session on Yale and the Greater New Haven area for visiting international scholars this semester.

The sessions will take place on Jan. 27; Feb. 10 and 24; March 10 and 24; April 14 and 28; and May 12 and 26. Each hour-long session will begin at 8:30 a.m., and will be followed by a campus tour at 9:45 a.m.

New fellowship program

The Gilder Lehrman Center for the Study of Slavery, Resistance and Abolition has announced a new fellowship program for the academic year 2005-2006.

The center seeks to promote a better understanding of all aspects of the institution of slavery from the earliest times to the present. It coordinates annual international and interdisciplinary conferences, lectures, educational outreach, publications and other activities to bring together scholars and students from across the spectrum of slavery studies.

The fellowship program is designed to support established and younger scholars in researching projects that can be linked to the aims of the center. Three-month fellowships with a stipend of $10,000 each and one-month fellowships with a stipend of $3,000 each are available for the academic year.

The fellowships will provide access to the research facilities of the University, to a broad range of related regional research collections and to the Gilder Lehrman Collection in New York City.

Musical instruments sought

The School of Music, in partnership with New Haven Public Schools, is seeking musical instruments for a new program that provides free instruction to 500 students at the Lincoln Bassett School.

In the "Music in Our Schools" program, the students begin instrumental study in kindergarten as part of their core curriculum. Older children are given the opportunity to study string instruments and band instruments.

Donations of instruments are tax deductible. Drop-off locations are Sprague Hall, 98 Wall St., and Lincoln Bassett School, 130 Bassett St. To arrange for pick-up in the Greater New Haven area, send e-mail to denise.meyer@yale.edu.


Child Conduct Clinic

The Child Conduct Clinic is currently accepting children between the ages of 2 and 13-1/2 who are displaying behavioral problems such as lying, disobeying parents, swearing, cheating, fighting, not getting along with others or getting into trouble at school.
