Nicotine research funding

The Center for Nicotine and Tobacco Use Research at Yale (CENTURY) is offering funding for pilot projects to initiate research that involves transdisciplinary research relating to tobacco use and dependence.

Interested applicants should submit letters of intent for pilot projects with a submission deadline of Feb. 15. CENTURY is particularly interested in pilot projects that are focused on understanding tobacco use and dependence in women and alcohol drinkers, and projects that explore the interaction between depression and tobacco use.

Four pilot projects at the $25,000 level will be funded. A total of $100,000 will be awarded on an annual basis.

Lunchtime chamber music

The School of Music is presenting a free lunchtime chamber music series in Morse Recital Hall in Sprague Hall, corner of College and Wall streets.

The next concert will be held at 12:30 p.m. on Wednesday, Feb. 2. The concerts showcase the artists in the school's chamber music program, and feature a variety of different ensembles performing one or more movements from masterworks.

"Songs for Soup" concert

The annual "Songs for Soup" concert will be held at Saint Thomas More Catholic Chapel and Center, 268 Park St., on Saturday, Feb. 12, at 2 p.m.

The concert will benefit the soup kitchen and other social activities at the center. It will feature the Whiffenpoofs, the Saint Thomas More Choir and other performers. A raffle and silent auction will also be held.

A free will offering will be taken at the door. The event is open to the public. For more information, call (203) 777-5537.


Bereavement group

The Chaplain's Office is sponsoring a bereavement group for staff and faculty.

The group is intended for those who want to talk with others about living with loss and grief, following the death of someone significant. It meets noon-1 p.m. every Tuesday until March 1, in the Lovett Rm. of Battell Chapel (enter from street-level door on College St. at the corner of Elm St.).

Child Conduct Clinic

The Child Conduct Clinic is currently accepting children between the ages of
2 and 13-1/2 who are displaying behavioral problems such as lying, disobeying parents, swearing, cheating, fighting or getting into trouble at school. For more information, call (203) 432-9993.


YUWO scholarships

The Yale University Women's Organization (YUWO) is offering scholarship awards to women whose formal education has been interrupted or delayed and who wish to resume their studies, or enhance or change their careers.

Members of the Yale community and their family members are eligible for the awards. YUWO members and family are not eligible. Present staff members and wives of staff members will be given first consideration. Applicants are judged upon merit and need.

Applications for the 2005-2006 academic year may be obtained by writing to Michaela Hauser-Wagner, 35 Hidden Place, Cheshire, CT 06410. Applicants should state their Yale affiliation and enclose a self-addressed, stamped business-sized envelope. Completed applications must be postmarked by March 1.
