The longstanding Crimson-Eli rivalry will take on a new twist when the two universities compete to see who can bring in the most blood donors for the first-ever Yale-Harvard Blood Drive Challenge, to be held Monday-Thursday, Feb. 7-10.
The drive is being spearheaded by the newly formed undergraduate American Red Cross at Yale organization. "Our goal is that through friendly competition with Harvard, we can motivate Yalies and New Haven residents to come out and give blood," says the group's chair, Jenny Zhang.
The Yale students hope to inspire over 500 individuals from the campus and the city to make appointments for the drive, which will boost blood supplies for hospital patients across New England.
The drive will take place 10 a.m.-3:15 p.m. daily in the Payne Whitney Gymnasium, 70 Tower Pkwy.
All those who are in generally good health, 17 years of age or older and weighing 110 pounds or more are eligible to donate blood. To make an appointment for the Yale-Harvard Blood Challenge, or any other blood drive in Connecticut, call (800) 488-3543 or visit the website at www.bloodct.org.
