The John-Christophe Schlesinger Visiting Writer Fund will host visits by poet Mark Strand and novelist Lorrie Moore.
Strand will read from his works on Tuesday, March 22, at 7 p.m. in St. Anthony Hall, corner of Wall and College streets. Moore will give a public reading on Thursday, March 24, at 7 p.m. in Rm. 102, Linsly-Chittenden Hall, 63 High St.
Strand is the author of 10 books of poems, including the Pulitzer Prize-winning "Blizzard of One," "Dark Harbor," "The Continuous Life," "Selected Poems," "The Story of Our Lives" and "Reasons for Moving." He has also published two books of prose, several volumes of translation including works by Rafael Alberti and Carlos Drummond de Andrade, several monographs on contemporary artists, and three books for children.
Strand has edited a number of volumes, including "The Golden Ecco Anthology," "The Best American Poetry 1991" and "Another Republic: 17 European and South American Writers" (with Charles Simic).
His honors include the Bollingen Prize, three grants from the National Endowment for the Arts, a National Institute of Arts and Letters Award, the Edgar Allen Poe Prize and a Rockefeller Foundation award, as well as fellowships from The Academy of American Poets, the MacArthur Foundation and the Ingram Merrill Foundation. He has served as poet laureate of the United States and is a former chancellor of The Academy of American Poets. He currently teaches in the Committee on Social Thought at the University of Chicago.

A professor of English at the University of Wisconsin in Madison, Moore is the author of the story collections "Birds of America" and "Self-Help." She has also written the novels "Who Will Run the Frog Hospital?" and "Anagrams."
Moore's work has appeared in The New Yorker, The Best American Short Stories and Prize Stories: The O. Henry Awards.
The John-Christophe Schlesinger Visiting Writer Fund was established in 1999 by Mr. and Mrs. Richard Schlesinger of Pound Ridge, New York, in order to enrich the experience of student writers in Yale College by supporting annual visits to campus by distinguished or emerging authors.
