Dr. James Comer, the Maurice Falk Professor of Child Psychiatry, will take part in a panel discussion about the future of public education.
Titled "Leave No Child Behind: A Conversation about Urban Education," the event will take place at 5:30 p.m. on Friday, March 18, at Playhouse on the Green, 177 State St., in Bridgeport.
Comer will be joined by Burt Saxon, the 2004 Connecticut Teacher of the Year; Janis M. Hadley, president of Housatonic Community College; and Charles Warner, head of instruction for New Haven Public Schools.
The discussion will be followed by a reception. Comer will also sign copies of his new book "Leave No Child Behind: Preparing Today's Youth for Tomorrow's World." The event is open to the public, but reservations are required. A $15 donation is requested, with all proceeds to benefit UPI Education, a nonprofit organization whose mission is "to give students the knowledge of core basic values that contribute to successful life navigation."
For reservations, contact Tom Fleming at (203) 645-6643.
