Manuscripts and Archives
Manuscripts and Archives will offer a general introduction to the department on Tuesday and Wednesday, Sept. 21 and 22.
A major center for primary source research at Yale, Manuscripts and Archives is known for its collections on the University and New Haven, although the materials held by the department have a far broader sweep. They document a wide array of institutions, persons and subject areas including public policy and administration; diplomacy and international affairs; political and social thought and commentary; and science, medicine and the environment, among others. Collections on Africa and Latin America are also substantial.
The orientation sessions, which are open to the public, will be of particular interest to new faculty, undergraduates beginning work on seminar papers and senior essays, and graduate students investigating topics for research utilizing the holdings of the department. They will include information on searching the department's databases and finding aids and tools for identifying sources beyond Yale.
Each session will take place in the Cowles Reference Center, Rm. 150, Sterling Memorial Library, 4:30-5:30 p.m. For further information or to register, contact the department at mssa.assist@yale.edu or (203) 432-1744.
A photographic exhibition by Rick Giudotti, titled "Positive Exposures," is currently on view in the Maya gallery at Silliman College.
Utilizing photography and video interviews, Giudotti's work fosters an understanding of the impact of genetic diseases on individuals, families and communities. The exhibit has toured the Smithsonian National Museum, MTV and several NIH genetic conferences to acclaim. It will be on view until Oct. 10.
The exhibit is co-sponsored by Silliman College, the Program for Humanities in Medicine and the Office for Diversity and Equal Opportunity.
The annual Walk to Cure Diabetes will be held on Sunday, Oct. 3, at Anthem Blue Cross Blue Shield in North Haven. Members of the University community who would like to join the Yale walk team or make a donation should contact Emalie Mayo at (203) 432-5495 or send e-mail to emalie.mayo@yale.edu.
The Child Conduct Clinic is currently accepting children between the ages of 2 and 13-1/2 who are displaying behavioral problems such as lying, disobeying parents, swearing, cheating, not getting along with others or getting into trouble at school. For more information, call (203) 432-9993.
