Concert series postponed

The Guild of Carillonneurs has announced that its annual summer concert series has been postponed until further notice because of renovations taking place in Harkness Tower. For more information about the guild, visit the website at www.yale.edu/carillon.

Yale Rep announces open captioned performance

The Yale Repertory Theatre will offer open captioned performances for each of the new season's six productions beginning in October.

c2Inc, based in New York, is the official open captioning provider for the Yale Rep. c2Inc also provides open captioning at the Kennedy Center in Washington, D.C., the Papermill Playhouse in New Jersey and several theaters in the tri-state area.

For a complete schedule of the open captioned performances, visit the website at www.yalerep.org or call (203) 432-1234.

For more information about open captioning and the Rep's other accessibility programs, or to be added to the mailing list, contact Ruth Feldman at (203) 432-8425 or send e-mail to rm.feldman@yale.edu.

Community Hosting program

The Office of International Students and Scholars is seeking individuals to host students from abroad who will be freshmen in Yale College this year.

The office believes the opportunity to experience U.S. culture and society and the friendship of a new community is greatly facilitated for many international students if they have the occasion to become acquainted with a local host.

The time commitment will vary depending on the relationship developed between the student and host. At a minimum the host is expected to welcome the new student as he or she arrives on campus, and invite them to share an occasional meal, a family event or holiday activity during the student's first year. Students do not live with their hosts.

Matches will be made by the end of July. For more information or to register to become a host, visit the website at www.oiss.yale.edu/hostfamily.

Tax notice

The Tax Office has issued a notice for international affiliates of the University.

All new international students, scholars, faculty members and other visitors who will receive any payments through the University payroll system -- for example, stipends, fellowships or wages -- must meet with the Tax Office prior to receiving payment.

At this meeting, a member of the office will review the individual's tax status to determine proper tax withholding, including whether the individual is eligible to claim a reduced income tax withholding rate pursuant to a tax treaty. The office will also determine if payments to the individual are exempt from Social Security and Medicare (FICA) tax withholding. For more information regarding payments to international individuals, visit the website at www.yale.edu/tax/int.

If an individual has not been set up on the payroll system prior to meeting with the Tax Office, he or she will need to provide documentation from the department regarding the position held (for example, postdoctoral fellow or postdoctoral associate) and type of payment (for example, stipend, fellowship or wage) at the appointment.

International students and scholars may schedule appointments through the International Tax Office website at www.yale.edu/tax/int/appointments.html. In addition, department administrators may schedule an appointment on behalf of an international student or scholar. To schedule an appointment with the office directly, call (203) 432-5530 or (203) 432-5597, or send e-mail to jodie.stewart-moore@yale.edu or daysi.cardona@yale.edu.

During the months of July, August and September, appointments will be scheduled Monday-Thursday between 8:30 a.m. and 3 p.m.
