Jeffrey A. Sonnenfeld



Jeffrey Sonnenfeld named to
Crown Chair in Management

Jeffrey A. Sonnenfeld, the new Lester Crown Professor of the Practice of Management, is a specialist in the areas of chief executive leadership, corporate governance, executive succession and board governance.

He is the associate dean for executive programs at the School of Management (SOM) and is the founder, president and chief executive officer of the Chief Executive Leadership Institute, a SOM-partnered entity dedicated to the advancement of top leadership education through scholarly research and peer-driven educational programs.

Sonnenfeld is the author of the bestselling book "The Hero's Farewell: What Happens When CEOs Retire," which was designated as "the standout new management book of the year" in 1988 by Business Week. His four other books include "Leadership and Governance from the Inside Out" and "Corporate Views of the Public Interest: Perceptions of the Forest Products Industry." He is frequently cited as a leadership expert on the major news networks and in U.S. newspapers and journals, and is a regular commentator on PBS's "Nightly Business Report" and NPR's "The Marketplace."

Sonnenfeld earned his A.B., M.B.A. and D.B.A. from Harvard University. Before coming to Yale in 2001, he taught at the Goizueta Business School at Emory University, where he founded the Center for Leadership & Career Studies and twice won the school's Outstanding Educator Award. He previously taught for 10 years at the Harvard Business School.

Sonnenfeld's other honors include recognition for "Distinguished Innovation in U.S. Management Education" from Sacred Heart University and the governor of Connecticut.
