Peabody Museum docents

The Peabody Museum of Natural History is seeking individuals to become docents (volunteer teachers).

The next training course for new docents will begin the week of Oct. 26. Applicants will learn about the museum's exhibitions and teaching techniques that will help them lead informal education programs for school classes.

Applicants should enjoy working with children, be available at least one morning per week during the school year, attend monthly meetings and, preferably, have a college degree or equivalent.

Classes are held at the museum two afternoons a week for six weeks. Training will focus on the dinosaurs exhibit. All docents begin with this program. Once docents are experienced, they may teach in other areas if they desire.

The fee for the course is $35, which will be refunded once the docent has taught four classes. For more information, call the Volunteer Office at (203) 432-3731.

Czech language table

The Department of Slavic Languages and Literatures is sponsoring a language table for those interested in Czech culture.

The sesssions will be held at Yorkside Pizza every Thursday, from 6 p.m. to
7 p.m., through Dec. 9. They are free and open to the public. For more information, call (203) 432-1300.
