Library events
Sterling Memorial Library will offer a lecture and guided tours of the Babylonian and Near Eastern Collections as part of its 75th anniversary season of events.
On Wednesday, Dec. 7, at 1 p.m., Benjamin Foster, the William M. Laffan Professor of Assyriology and Babylonian Literature and curator of the Babylonian Collection, will speak on "Yale and the Babylonians." The lecture will be an exploration of the history of Yale's involvement with ancient Iraq. It will take place in the Sterling Memorial Library lecture hall.
The tours will be held on Tuesday, Dec. 13, at 10:30 a.m. and 1:30 p.m. The Babylonian Collection comprises the largest assemblage of ancient cuneiform inscriptions, including inscriptions on clay tablets, in the United States. The Near Eastern Collection is the oldest, richest and most current collection in U.S. universities.

The Yale University Women's Organization (YUWO) is offering scholarship awards to women whose formal education has been interrupted or delayed and who wish to resume their studies or enhance or change their careers.
Members of the Yale community and their family members are eligible for the awards. YUWO members and family are not eligible. Present staff members and wives of staff members will be given first consideration. Applicants are judged upon merit and need.

Applicants should state their Yale affiliation and enclose a self-addressed, stamped business-sized envelope. Completed applications must be postmarked by March 1. The Yale University Women's Organization (YUWO) will hold its annual holiday party on Sunday, Dec. 11, 4-6 p.m., in the common room of the Divinity School, 409 Prospect St.
The event will feature food, punch and a silent auction. Donations to the scholarship fund will be accepted.
