First BioHaven Entrepreneurship Seminar to take place Dec. 13
Yale's Office of Cooperative Research and Connecticut United for Research Excellence (CURE) will launch the Yale BioHaven Entrepreneurship Seminars series on Tuesday, Dec. 13, from 4 to 5 p.m. in the School of Medicine's Anlyan Center auditorium, 300 Cedar St.
This first seminar will focus on Applied Spine Technologies (AST), a local surgical implant company that is developing the Panjabi Spine System, a stabilization device that supports the spine while preserving motion and flexibility. Speakers will be Tom Wood, chief executive officer of Applied Spine Technologies, and Manohar Panjabi, professor of orthopaedics and mechanical engineering at Yale.
AST, located in the technology incubator at 300 George St. in New Haven, was founded in February 2004 by Panjabi, who is one of the world's leading authorities on spine biomechanics. The two men will tell the story about their start-up team and how the "right technology found the right people at the right time." Their goal is to motivate new "academic founders" to understand how their dreams and ideas can be realized.
The seminar will be followed by refreshments. Registration is free, but required, by contacting Lucy Sargeant at (203) 436-8096 or lucysargeant@sbcglobal.net.
For further information on the seminar, send e-mail to Loraine Lombard at loraine.lombard@yale.edu or Tom Wood at twood@appliedspine.com.
HistoRx will be the focus of the next seminar in the series, which will take place on Feb. 8.
