There will be a memorial service on Sunday, Dec. 11, for Boris I. Bittker, Sterling Professor Emeritus of Law, who died on Sept. 9 at the age of 87.
The ceremony will take place at 3 p.m. in the Law School's Levinson Auditorium, 127 Wall St. A reception will follow in the school's dining hall.
A preeminent authority on tax law whose research helped shape the field, Bittker also made important contributions to the fields of civil rights law and constitutional law. He was a 1941 graduate of the Yale Law School, where he served on the faculty for nearly 40 years, earning a reputation as a superb teacher and becoming a respected counselor to many deans. Even after his retirement in 1983, Bittker continued to come to the Law School every day and pursue his research and writing.
