President Richard C. Levin has announced that Bruce Alexander, vice president and director of the University's Office of New Haven and State Affairs, has agreed to assume permanent responsibility at Yale for the oversight and management of facilities planning, construction, renovation and operations.
"Bruce was a senior executive with one of the nation's premier real estate development firms prior to returning to serve his alma mater," Levin said. "In that capacity, he had extensive experience in the management of facilities planning and construction."
Alexander retired in 1996 from the Rouse Company to engage in civic activities after 25 years as a senior executive with the company. At Rouse, he was senior vice president and director of the Commercial Development Division, responsible for the development of retail and mixed-use properties throughout the United States.
Levin said that John Bollier, associate vice president for facilities operations, and Jerry Warren, associate vice president for construction and renovation, and their respective organizations, will be working with Alexander in his new capacity. Alexander's new title will be vice president for New Haven and state affairs and campus development.
Alexander was appointed Yale's vice president and director of New Haven and state affairs in May 1998. He is currently serving for the second time as acting vice president for finance and administration.
A graduate of Yale College, Alexander earned his law degree from Duke University.
