Yale Opera productions span the globe and the centuries
Yale Opera will present works in three languages and from three centuries on Friday and Saturday, April 7 and 8, at 8 p.m. both nights in Morse Recital Hall in Sprague Hall, corner of College and Wall streets.
The company will present the American premiere of a work titled "Le Disavventura Teatrali" ("The Theatrical Misadventure") on Friday night. This work -- conceived by Johann Wolfgang von Goethe in the 18th century -- is a pastiche of music from Domenico Cimarosa's "L'impresario in angustie" and W.A. Mozart's "Der Schauspieldirektor."
On Saturday, Yale Opera presents Leonard Bernstein's "Trouble in Tahiti," a 1951 work about a suburban couple whose marriage is in trouble. The singers will also perform excerpts from Charles Gounod's "Romeo and Juliet," written in the 19th century. The Italian and French works will be sung in the original language with supertitles.
Yale Opera, part of the School of Music, has been hailed as America's foremost training ground for young singers. Doris Yarick Cross, professor of voice at the School of Music, is its artistic director.
Tickets for each night, all reserved seats, are $12 and $8 ($5 for students). Tickets may be purchased online at www.yale.edu/music, by calling (203) 432-4158 or stopping by the School of Music box office, located in Sprague Hall. For more information, visit www.yale.edu/music.
