First-rate science

New Haven student Monique Haynes (right) won first place in the individual physical sciences category for high school students at the New Haven Science Fair, held at Yale March 13-14. Haynes' project was one of five winners of the CRISP "Experiences for Youth" science fair -- held March 4 at Southern Connecticut State University -- to advance to the New Haven Science Fair. CRISP is the acronym for Yale's Center for Research on Interface Structures and Phenomena, which provides mentoring, guidance and enrichment activities for K-12 students with the goal of making science come alive through real-life applications, as well as to interest students -- particularly those from minority groups -- in science careers.
