Bruce Ackerman to discuss 'Before the Next Attack'

Bruce Ackerman, Sterling Professor of Law and Political Science, will discuss his new book,"Before the Next Attack: Preserving Civil Liberties in an Age of Terrorism," with General William Odom at 6 p.m. on Monday, April 17.

The event will be held at Labyrinth Books, 290 York St. There is no admission fee and the pubic is invited. For more information, call (203) 787-2848.


Ivan Szelenyi honored by the government of Hungary for his scholarship

Ivan Szelenyi, the William Graham Sumner Professor of Sociology and Political Science, recently received the Szechenyi Prize from the president of the Hungarian Republic.

Twenty scholars from all fields of scholarship, including natural sciences, receive this prize annually.

Szelenyi works on social inequalities from a comparative and historical perspective. Recently, he conducted large-scale surveys on changing stratification systems in European post-communist countries. He is currently researching poverty and ethnicity in transitional societies.
