"Side Show," the true story of Violet and Daisy Hilton, conjoined twins who became vaudeville stars in England and America in the 1930s, will be presented by the Yale Dramat during Commencement weekend Friday-Sunday, May 19-21.
Set amidst the world of the freak show and the splendor of the vaudeville era, the musical offers a portrait of two women whose situation brought them attention, fame, and an unexpected encounter with love.
"'Side Show' is not your typical boy-meets-girl love story, but then again, the Dramat's Commencement musical is not your typical production," says director Andy Sandberg '06. "The majority of the rehearsals and all of the show's load-in are squeezed into an intensive 10-day window after exams to mount the year's biggest and most lavish undergraduate production.
"Although 'Side Show' is a lesser known musical," notes Sandberg, "it is an incredible show with a fascinating story and a beautiful score. The show opened to great reviews and a very positive audience response on Broadway. ... We are thrilled to be bringing this show to Yale as part of the Commencement weekend."
The show will be performed at 8 p.m. nightly in the University Theatre, 222 York St. For ticket information and reservations, visit www.dramat.org/boxoffice/sideshow.php.
