A selection of unique items from special collections at libraries across the campus will be on view at a fair to be held noon-4 p.m. on Thursday, Oct. 6, in the Beinecke Rare Book and Manuscript Library, 121 Wall St.
The event is free, and the public is welcome. The event is coordinated by the Yale Library Special Collections Committee and hosted by the Beinecke Library.
The Special Collections Fair offers the public a unique opportunity to see the vast range of Yale's holdings under one roof -- including artifacts, maps, documents and recorded media covering more than 5,000 years of human endeavor.
Among the many items on display will be original drawings from the papers of architect Eero Saarinen held at Manuscripts and Archives in Sterling Memorial Library; photographs documenting silk production in China in the 1920s and 1930s from the Divinity Library; and materials related to the manuscript account by Anna Larpent of the Duchess of Kingston's trial for bigamy of 1776 from the Lewis Walpole Library in Farmington, Connecticut.
Curators and collection staff will be available to answer questions about exhibits and the use of their collections. Representatives will be on hand from the Arts Library, which includes the Arts of the Book Collection; the Yale University Art Gallery; the Babylonian Collection; the Beinecke Rare Book and Manuscript Library; the Yale Center for British Art; the Divinity Library; the Historical Medical Library; the Lewis Walpole Library; Manuscripts and Archives, including the Fortunoff Video Archive for Holocaust Testimonies; the Map Collection; the Music Library, including Historical Sound Recordings; the Oral History American Music Collection; and the Conservation and Preservation Departments.
