Chemistry department symposium to celebrate opening of building
The Department of Chemistry is hosting a symposium on Monday, Oct. 24, to celebrate the dedication of its new home, the Class of '54 Chemistry Research Building on Science Hill.
While the dedication ceremonies are by invitation only, the symposium is open to the Yale community. It will take place in Rm. 110 of the department's current headquarters, Sterling Chemistry Laboratory, 225 Prospect St.
The five featured speakers and their topics are George Flynn, Columbia University, "Self-Assembly, Chemistry and Spectroscopy in Two Dimensions: The View from One Billionth of an Inch"; Paul Wender, Stanford University, "Better Science Through Synthesis: New Reactions, New Therapeutics and New Drug Delivery Systems"; Kurt Wüthrich, Scripps Research Institute, "NMR with Proteins: Methods Development by Physical Chemists for Biology"; Harry Gray, California Institute of Technology, "The Currents of Life: Electron Flow through Iron and Copper Proteins"; and Stuart Schreiber, Harvard University, "A Matrix of Small Molecules, Cell States and Cell Measurements."
