Free podcasts featuring University faculty and distinguished visitors to Yale speaking on a wide range of topics are now available through Apple's iTunes.
The Yale podcast series debuted on iTunes with a score of public talks and interviews featuring members of the Faculty of Arts and Sciences and professors from the Schools of Architecture, Law, Medicine, Management and Forestry & Environmental Studies, as well as visiting speakers.
Among the Yale faculty featured on the University's initial collection of podcasts are art historian Vincent Scully, political scientist Ian Shapiro, historian John Gaddis, skin cancer expert Dr. David Leffell, Peabody Museum director Michael Donoghue, geneticist Tian Xu and MacArthur "genius" grant recipient Lisa Curran. Visitors to Yale featured on podcasts include former U.S. secretary of state Madeleine Albright and alumnus Bob Woodward, the award-winning political journalist.
The podcasts range in length from 10 minutes to 90 minutes and include panel discussions, informal interviews, public lectures and broadcasts from Yale's Healthline radio program.
More podcasts will be added regularly to Yale's offerings on iTunes.
Anyone who has downloaded the free iTunes application from Apple, which works on computers with either the Apple or Windows operating systems, may access podcasts from the Yale collection. The podcasts can be enjoyed by listening to them on a computer or on a portable iPod or MP3 player.
Listeners may also subscribe to the Yale podcast series through iTunes. Once someone subscribes to the podcast series, new talks and audio features from Yale are automatically listed when the iTunes application is opened. Subscribing to the Yale podcasts avoids the need to find the individual podcasts on iTunes produced by the University.
The website of the Yale Office of Public Affairs (www.yale.edu/opa) has complete information on the Yale podcast series, including a listing of all the available podcasts. The website also has step-by-step instructions on how to enjoy Yale's audio offerings through iTunes, including how to subscribe to the podcast series.
Anyone familiar with the iTunes application may simply search the iTunes store for Yale, find the link for the Yale podcast series, browse through the free offerings and download the selections for immediate or future listening.
