Individuals who wish to be on the agenda should send e-mail to jonathan.macey@yale.edu prior to the meeting. The message should note Yale affiliation and the topic to be addressed. On Friday, Feb. 2, the Yale Physics Colloquium will focus on the topic of diversity in science, with a particular emphasis on increasing the number of underrepresented minorities.
The program will be held at 4 p.m. in Rm. 57 of Sloane Physics Laboratory, 217 Prospect St.
Professor Keivan Stassun from Vanderbilt University will describe factors that are key to broadening minority participation in sciences. The issues involved are different from those related to increasing the numbers of women in science.
Stassun will also describe his successful initiative that brings Fisk undergraduate science majors into the Ph.D. program at Vanderbilt, not only in his own department of physics and astronomy but in other science areas as well.
The Yale Sustainable Food Project is sponsoring "Sauerkraut Making: Discover the Joys of Lacto-Fermentation" on Thursday, Feb. 8, 5-7 p.m.
The event will be presented by Michael Perlmutter. It will be followed by a potluck dinner and a screening of the documentary "Garlic Is as Good as 10 Mothers." The location of the program will be announced on the website, www.yale.edu/sustainablefood/calendar.html.
